Model Mugging / IMPACT was founded over
30 years ago in response to the need for realistic women’s
self-defense that was effective in real-life scenarios.
It has gone through extensive refinement since the early
days. Of over 50,000 graduates nationally, more than 50
have reported that they used the techniques learned to
knock out or physically disable an attacker. Hundreds have
reported using skills learned in the course to de-escalate
a violent situation and hundreds more have reported avoiding,
through heightened awareness, what they perceived as a
physically threatening situation. |
The first IMPACT-style class to be offered
in the state of Michigan was in 1994. A woman in Ann Arbor
heard about IMPACT
on the Oprah Winfrey show and decided she wanted to take
a class. She contacted Bay Area Model Mugging (BAMM) who helped
her to locate class instructors. That spirit of volunteering
and “being the change we want to see in the world” is
still very much a part of WAMM today. Would you like to see
additions to WAMM this year? Maybe a kid’s class or teen’s
class? Give us a call, together we can make it happen!
